Creating Cohesion with Flooring

We’ve shared many times that our home had a lot of different types of flooring. And boy did it ever.

When we committed to this renovation, we knew that the biggest change we had to make was to resolve the inconsistencies. From random wall colours to 14 types of flooring to mismatched hardware, we knew that if we could make it all more cohesive, it would indeed level up the house.

We were very excited to get rid of the turquoise blue tile in the back entry, but boy we didn’t expect how hard it would be to demo.

We were very excited to get rid of the turquoise blue tile in the back entry, but boy we didn’t expect how hard it would be to demo. The tile came out in a million pieces, but the bigger job was removing the plywood below it. Unfortunately it was glued to the sub-floor.

Slowly but surely Elliot worked day and night chipping the plywood away. Eventually it was gone (but not without a bit of PTSD) and the new tile was installed.

We’re super happy with this large format tile we found at Tilesense in Coquitlam. We’ll be using it throughout the house, because you know, cohesiveness is the name of the game. 🙂
